Air conditioning repair and replacement for Duluth and the greater Northland.

Repair

We look at your whole system to get a holistic picture of its health, instead of throwing parts at it.

  • No cooling calls
  • Capacitors, contactors, and fan motors
  • Iced coils and restricted airflow
  • Leak search and refrigerant repair

Replacement

Sizing matters on air conditioning. An oversized unit cools the house too fast and never runs long enough to pull humidity out of the air, and the short cycling wears out the compressor early. We size to the calculated load instead.

  • Accurate load calculation
  • Matched indoor and outdoor unit
  • Vacuum pulled and verified before charging
  • Permit pulled and inspection handled

Time to call

  • The air at the registers is not cold
  • The outdoor unit hums but the fan doesn't spin
  • Ice on the copper refrigerant lines or the indoor coil
  • It runs without stopping on an 80 degree afternoon
  • The breaker has tripped more than once

Any of these is worth a call at (218) 206-6075. Office hours are every day 8a–8p, and no-heat calls go to the front of the queue.

Adding cooling to a house that never had it

If you heat with hot water and have no ductwork, central air means running ducts through a finished house, which is rarely worth what it costs on its own. Ductless is usually the better answer. A heat pump can do the same cooling and take a bite out of the heating bill the rest of the year.

Questions

Can you just add refrigerant to my air conditioner?

We can, but an air conditioner does not consume refrigerant the way a car burns gas. If it is low, it leaked, and topping it off without finding the leak means paying for the same refrigerant again next summer. We look for the leak first, then price the repair against the age of the system so you can decide.

Should I replace the AC at the same time as the furnace?

Only if the air conditioner is near the same age. The two share the indoor coil and the blower, so doing both at once saves labor and gets you a properly matched system. If your AC is eight years old and running fine, we will leave it alone and set the new furnace up to work with it.

Is central air worth it in Duluth?

We get a handful of genuinely hot stretches a year, and they have been running longer than they used to. If sleeping upstairs in July is miserable, it is worth it. If your house has no ducts, price ductless before you price ductwork.
